Dr. Juan D. Ocampo is Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Associate Professor at St. Mary’s University, and an internationally recognized expert in aerospace structural reliability. With deep expertise in fatigue, damage tolerance, and risk-informed life assessment, he plays a critical role in advancing the safety and performance of both commercial and defense aircraft systems.

Dr. Ocampo has led and contributed to multiple FAA-funded research programs, advancing digital-twin methodologies and structural integrity frameworks used in real-world certification and sustainment efforts. His work spans probabilistic analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, crack-growth modeling, and inspection planning for metallic and composite airframes. Beyond aerospace, he contributes to national security initiatives through DOE-funded programs and serves as President of AeroMatter.
