T700 Engine Process Improvement

MANTECH Program Manager, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Corpus Christi Army Depot

Corpus Christi Army Depot, Corpus Christi, TX

Designed, implemented and completed a successful process improvement of T700 engine turbine testing using Design of Experiments that resulted in annual recurring cost savings of over $1.0M by applying statistical techniques to discover significant engine variables that control the test cell rejection rate of turbines.  T700 rework acceptance rate improved from 33% to 90%. During repeatability testing, the depot produced T700 engine broke records for engine performance with an intermediate rated power rating of 209, a maximum continuous power rating of 317, and a fuel flow of 12 pounds per hour. These findings indicated that an increase in power can be obtained while decreasing fuel consumption for this engine.
