This workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the development and application of exceedance curves for aircraft structural analysis and certification. Exceedance curves describe the frequency and magnitude of loads encountered during flight and are foundational to sizing, fatigue evaluation, mission spectrum development, and damage-tolerance assessments. Participants will explore how flight data, aerodynamic modeling, and operational profiles translate into maneuver, gust, and ground load exceedances. Through examples from civil and military aircraft–including fatigue and damage tolerance evaluations–attendees will learn how exceedance-based mission spectra are constructed and how operational usage influences structural life limits and inspection planning. A hands-on exercise walks participants through generating maneuver load exceedance curves from sample flight data and constructing a simplified mission spectrum for comparison across different mission profiles.
